Narrow Ridge ProgramsSome of our most important work at Narrow Ridge is done through our educational programs in which students are given the opportunity to experience sustainable living first hand, to immerse themselves in the natural world where they experience themselves as part of the community of Earth rather than outside observers, to participate in organic gardening, to delve into environmental issues of mountaintop removal, conscious consumerism, bioregionalism, and sustainable agriculture and diet. We believe our educational programs are making a difference by creating an awareness of the current state of the planet and the responsibility that each individual holds to self and all the others that make up Earth now and in the future. Donor support makes these programs possible. The following are testimonials of students who have participated in Narrow Ridge Programs: You have no idea how this trip empowered me and helped me discover a part of myself I did not know. All of us are non-stop talking about out experiences and its something I will always take with me. I'm glad I am more aware of the horrible cycle I’ve been contributing to, but now that I am aware I can assure you I do make more conscious decisions in my everyday routine, changing my life one day at a time. So I have you guys to thank for this. And I strongly believe an experience like this should be mandatory for all students everywhere to experience, because the fact is that there is a lack of awareness in all aspects of society. But I am no longer among those who are unaware. Honey Madarang The amazing activities we participated in at Narrow Ridge allowed me to see our world from a different perspective and appreciate all the living organisms that exist on our beautiful planet. Learning about the dangers we pose to Earth has caused me to change my old living habits. I no longer leave the lights on or the water running unnecessarily. I have also tried to change my eating habits and have moved to consuming more organic foods than before. I am very blessed and thankful for going to Narrow Ridge and for the opportunity to learn the value of simplicity and deepen my sense of responsibility. Ali Bawany The ability to know and understand the actions that are compromising our environment and the ability to feel, bond, and experience feelings with nature is a keepsake no one will ever be able to take away. Narrow Ridge offered an intimate encounter with nature that left its mark in the souls of many. Thanks! Ingrid Cepero My time at Narrow Ridge was not only a lot of fun, but was also a lesson in realizing the deep and important interconnectedness between people, other beings and Earth. In order to be happy and healthy I realize it is important to maintain and embrace these connections whether it means taking the time to really listen to a person, to a bird call, or to the breeze. Thanks to all who made for an exceptional experience! Katherine Zielke This is an experience that everyone should have in their lifetime. It showed me how we have grown far way from nature and what we can do to help save the planet. As individuals on this planet, we continue the use and sometimes abuse/waste of our natural resources. We could do so much in helping to save the Earth. The use of solar energy and wind for power, wells for water and house structures that make use of straw bales and the natural light really show innovation. Narrow ridge has given me a new perspective while awakening the appreciation for nature. David Sydney My experience at Narrow Ridge helped me to realize that I have been missing out on nature my whole life. Our selfish attempt to make human life as convenient as possible has resulted in the waste and misuse of our resources. Before Narrow Ridge, I didn’t know I could give my food scraps back to the Earth. All I knew were the waste sites. I didn’t know that my lights can be powered by the Earth. All I knew was nuclear. I didn’t realize our true medicine came from the Earth. All I knew were chemicals. I didn’t realize how much we have depended on ourselves and refused the assistance of the Earth, harming it in the process. With global warming, depleted resources, and tainted agriculture, I believe we should realize that the Earth is calling us to return. Melissa Emmanuel Some other possible activities are:
